Formula 1 Picks - Profiles June 22 FREE Formula 1 PICK: Grand Prix of France 2008: Outright Winner (Fernando Alonso +2000) (L) Fernando Alonso was fastest in practice 2 (most like race conditions) for the Grand Prix in France. He finished 2nd in France in 2006 and he won the race in France in 2005 both while driving a Renault. Renault has put a lot of attention on this Grand Prix of France. Renault was founded and is based out of France. Alonso has driven very well for Renault in this race. Alonso won four times last year. Alonso and Renault are well positioned in this race to pull the upset. The last two formula 1 races have been somewhat surprising with crashes and some top contenders falling out of races. Alonso qualified in fourth position, which generally isn't good at all, but the third qualifier (Hamilton) will be dropping to Grid 13 after a penalty was assessed on Lewis Hamilton. This little detail makes a big difference. This puts Alonso in P3 to start the race and right behind the Ferrari's of Raikkonen and Massa. If Alonso can pick one off early, it would put him in a very nice position. Even if he doesn't, it is speculated that Alonso is running a heavier fuel load than Raikkonen and Massa. This means Alonso might be working a fuel strategy to win this race along with a fast car as fuel burns. Alonso at +2000 on this track in this situation is just too good to pass up. June 8 FREE Formula 1 PICK: Grand Prix du Canada 2007: Lewis Hamilton to Win Outright (Lewis Hamilton 4 / 7) (L) Odds were better on Lewis Hamilton earlier in the weekend after first day of practice. He led second practice by close to three tenths of a second. Hamilton dominated qualifying and will be starting from Grid 1. The last two winners at Canada have come from Grid 1 starting position. Also, Hamilton is the defending winner of this race. We believe Hamilton would have to make a major mistake to lose this Grand Prix. |
